ORDER FOR WORSHIP

PRELUDE: Scherzo in e minor Mendelssohn

SALUTATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

* PASSING OF THE PEACE

* SANCTUS (pew card)

* CALL TO WORSHIP Heather Allison

As we are called into worship today,
it is sobering to remember
that when God appeared on earth in the person of Jesus,
most of the world did not recognize him.
Today we ask for the faith that will open our eyes
to see Jesus for who he is,
that we might worship him in truth.
People of God, behold and see your God!
We open our eyes to see his glory.
We open our ears to hear his wisdom.
We open our hands to offer him gifts.
We open our mouths to sing his praise.
We open our hearts to offer him our love.
He is Lord!

* HYMN No. 381 Come, Ye Thankful People, Come

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Gracious God,
our sins are too heavy to carry,
too real to hide, and too deep to undo.
Forgive what our lips tremble to name,
what our hearts can no longer bear,
and what has become for us
a consuming fire of judgment.
Set us free from a past that we cannot change;
open to us a future in which we can be changed;
and grant us grace to grow more and more in
your likeness and image;
through Jesus Christ, the light of the world.Amen.
(Prayers of Silent Confession)
Kyrie (sung): Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON/WISDOM FOR LIFE

Here the good news!
Who is in a position to condemn?
Only Christ, and Christ rose for us,
Christ reigns in power for us,
Christ prays for us.
Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation.
The old life has gone; a new life has begun.
Know that you are forgiven, and be at peace.
Amen.

ANTHEM: Be Not Afraid Craig Courtney

Be not afraid: for I have redeemed you;
Be not afraid: I have called you by name.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
When you pass through the floods,
they will not sweep over you;
when you walk through the fire,
you will not be consumed;
you are mine,
you are precious in my sight.
My love for you is everlasting,
My love for you shall have no end.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Lord’s Prayer (pew card)

Response: For the Life That You Have Given

For the life that you have given,
for the love in Christ made known,
with these fruits of time and labor,
with these gifts that are your own:
Here we offer, Lord, our praises;
heart and mind and strength we bring;
give us grace to love and serve you,
living what we pray and sing.

* HYMN No. 365 Abide with Me

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION

Gracious God, we do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from your mouth.
Make us hungry for this your Word, that it may
nourish us today in the ways of eternal life.
Through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven.Amen.

SCRIPTURE READINGS:

Psalm 107:1-3, 23-32 p. 487
2 Corinthians 6:1-13 p. 940

This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

SERMON:                                    Open Wide                                  Alisha Riepma

* CONFESSION OF FAITH:

Section of the Nicene Creed:

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the
dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

OFFERING OURSELVES AND OUR GIFTS

Offertory: Lord, Keep Us Closer to You Don Besig

In the quiet of this moment,
here in this holy place,
help us feel your presence, Lord;
help us know Your grace.
Renew each spirit,
heal every soul. Come and touch us with Your love
and make us whole.
In this fellowship together,
friendship and love have grown.
Keep us ever faithful, Lord;
claim us as Your own.
Grant us Your mercy,
calm every fear.
There is peace within our hearts
when You are near.
Lord as we turn to You,
humbly we pray.
Help us to trust in You;
show us Your way.
O, Lord, in all we say and do,
keep us, our whole life through,
Lord, closer to You,
keep us closer to You.
In the troubled world around us,
help us to share Your light.
Walk along beside us, Lord;
keep us in your sight.
Guide every footstep;
help us be true.
Draw us closer every day.
Give us strength to live in faith
and follow You.
