Tae Kwon Do
The word Taekwondo can be interpreted into English as the art of kicking and punching. This Korean Martial Art is much more than its definition. It encompasses the Body, the Mind, and the Spirit, a way to live your life. Physically you can develop better coordination, strength and flexibility, while learning to defend yourself. Mentally you can gain self control and confidence. Spiritually you will live everyday of your Taekwondo life by applying its lessons of courtesy, respect, integrity, perserverance, loyalty and indomitable spirit.
Taekwondo at Church on the Hill was started in the fall of 1998 by instructors Steve and Jeanne Sarran under the supervision of Master Kyong Hoon Kim. Master Kim has been a U.S. Collegiate Team head coach, a U.S. National Team coach and has coached at several World Taekwondo Collegiate Championships. Master Kim has traveled the world coaching U.S. team members. Under his guidance, the program at Church on the Hill has become the fun learning experience it is today. The program has students of all ages learning and having fun while learning the kicks and punches Taekwondo teaches. Many of our students have roots at Church on the Hill; some are our neighbors who joined with friends. The program has already earned several students their black belts. Every year the students compete in Master Kim's New Jersey Atlantic Competition. Church on the Hill students always do well and have earned many medals.
