The Sanctuary Organs
In January of 1993, the decision was made by the Consistory of The Church on the Hill to engage in a drive to fund a new organ and renovated chancel for our Sanctuary. Two months later a contract was signed with the Allen Organ Company of Macungie, Pennsylvania. The renovation of the Chancel took place in July and August, and in early September the new organ was installed and dedicated to the Glory of God.
The result of this project was a beautiful Chancel and choir loft, keeping the appearance of the previous Chancel, but with expanded floor space, oak parquet floors, a newly designed and enlarged choir loft, and a four manual digital, state-of-the-art organ.
The organ is actually two organs, a four manual instrument in the front of the church and a two manual in the rear gallery. Both instruments are played from a large four manual console in Chancel in the front of the church. Whereas the previous organ that had served the church since 1932 was extremely limited in its tonal resources, those of the new organ are almost limitless. It is the largest installation by the Allen Organ Company in New York, and it is scaled and voiced for the size and nature of our Sanctuary.
The addition of the new organ in 1993 brought with it a "whole new world" of excitement and beauty for our worship experiences. It is capable of playing literature for the organ of all periods, and provided a rebirth in the areas of choral leadership and congregational singing.
